Early Years Development

Mission Statement

The primary focus of the Early Childhood Development Working Group is to ensure all children (0-6) and their families reach their full potential, through quality childcare, education and community based services and supports.

The following strategies support the above mission:
  • To share information, network and support amongst those involved in early childhood development
  • To raise issues in relation to Early childhood Development with policy makers, national organizations and agencies and to advocate on behalf of the early years sector
  • To support the development of training in relation to early childhood development (needs more work)
  • To support the provision and development of quality childcare
  • To ensure all strategies maintain an equality focus, including children with special needs, new communities and travelers
  • To support statutory and community groups to link together to meet the needs of children 0-6 years.
  • To support the sustainability of the community childcare sector in terms of management, human resource issues and legislation through training, education and information sharing.

Community Childcare and Education

Community Childcare and Education facilities are established to meet local community needs and are run in a not-for-profit capacity. The main purpose is to provide affordable high quality childcare and education to children under the age of 6.

The first point of contact for those interested in establishing a new childcare facility is the South Dublin County Childcare Committee. See links below.

Future Developments of Working Group

The working group is recently expanded its membership from of 7 to 14 as part of the expansion of the Partnership activities into the new areas. We are pleased to welcome representation from Lucan, Palmerstown and Newcastle within the working group.

Jo Jingles - The Music and Movement Experience for Children

Jo Jingles gives young children a fun introduction to music, singing and movement. Promote your child's language and communication skills. Percussion instruments, Nursery Rhymes, Action songs and Well-Known Children's Songs.

Jo Jingles was run in 3 locations within the Clondalkin Area. The aim was to bring parents together in a relaxed and fun way. However Parents of the 3 groups participated in questionnaires. The results of which showed the following:

  • Poor range of community activities for children aged 0-3 in particular but also for those in the 3-5 age range before they attend school. While pre-schools do exist there are often few options for this age outside of the pre-school hours.

  • Limited opportunities for Parents to address their child's developmental needs.

Arising out of the above pilot initiative Jo Jingles is now being delivered independently at the Bush Community Centre in Balgaddy. Queries can me made directly to the co-ordinator Linda Gahan or Carmen Pardes on 01 4508748 for queries/book a place.
