Equality for Women Measure

Equality for Women Measure

The Equality for Women Measure (EWM) is an initiative of the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform and is managed collaboratively between the Department and Pobal. The project is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) under the Human Capital Investment Operational Programme 2007-2013.

EWM is organised around the allocation of small scale funding of €30,000 to groups and organisations for the delivery of education and training supports to women residing in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. The aim of the initiative is to enhance the skills and qualifications of women thereby assisting their progression options, and improving their labour market readiness.
Equality for Women Measure programmes have been running in the South West Clondalkin/Balgaddy area since 2009 and will be continued pending the availability of funding.

Local EWM project

CPLN Area Partnership in conjunction with Bawnogue Women's Development Group is running the EWM programme in Balgaddy Lucan South and South West Clondalkin. The aim of this programme is to help participants develop the skills and knowledge demanded of today's work environment and to provide support and guidance to enable women to find work or to move into further education which will enhance their employment prospects in the future.

It is important that women keep building on their skills and knowledge while they are out of the workforce. This will ensure that they are in a position to take up meaningful employment again when the job market improves. Continuing to stay involved in education and training also develops self-confidence and improves self-esteem. Information on other courses and progression routes will be provided to participants.

This course is aimed at women who are:
• Committed to their own development.
• Over 18 years of age and who left school with few or no qualifications.
• Want to prepare themselves for employment in the future.

The programme will consist of a selection of the following FETAC Level 3 modules:

• Personal and Interpersonal Skills (Dealing with challenging situations. Personal and Professional Growth)
• Personal Effectiveness (Confidence Building)
• Communication Skills (Improve conversation skills, write effective letters,)
• Preparation for Work skills (Career guidance will be introduced to support each person to focus on the future)
• Basic Computer Skills (Word processing, spreadsheets, keyboard skills, introduction to e-mail and internet)
