Youth Initiatives

The six second level schools in the Clondalkin area (Colaiste Bride, Moyle Park College, Colaiste Chillian, Deansrath Community College, St. Kevin's Community College and Collinstown Park Community College) were invited to send 10 Transition year or 5th year students to the Youth Seminar.  This event was put on to encourage the young people to consider getting involved in future Youth Forum for their area.

In the photos - the morning exercise was facilitated by Youth Service staff who encouraged the young people at their tables to map existing services and identify 3 possible actions that would be an asset to them and their area. The mayor spoke to them about the benefits of getting more actively involved in the development of their community and advocating for services and facilities that were relevant to them, and how he began to get involved in local politics. He met them at their individual table to discuss what was coming up for them in the groups, and a group photo was taken.

After the break - we had offered the young people 5 workshops that could be seen as additional communication tools to help them discover their voice and expand their skills base. These were podcasting, web design, poster design, leadership skills and film. The young people did two workshops each and got the opportunity to discover the power of the different media. The film group filmed the Ministers speech for example and were kind of learning on the job so to speak, so it was very inter-active and hands on. The Minister kindly took the time to take a picture with each school group, and she answered a question and answer session on her job as well.
